Outings for September 2026

We will return to using minibuses later this month. However, at the beginning of the month our first trip is to Southend by train. Please book early as places are limited, and the trip is extremely good value for senior citizens. Please note that the maximum number for public transport trips is 10 passengers, and for minibuses 16 passengers. 

1. Friday 4th September

Southend by train. Leaving Harrow on the Hill at 9.30am, we ride on the Metropolitan Line to Aldgate, from where it is a five minute walk to Fenchurch Street station. From here we travel by c2c train to Southend Central, a journey of about an hour. The station at Southend is around ten minutes walk from the seafront. Here you can catch another train to the end of the longest pier in the world. (You can of course walk it, but at 1.3 miles each way it’s quite a hike). We will return at 3pm from Southend Central and should be back in Harrow by 5pm. Cost £10.00 for over 65’s, £15.60 for Over 60’s card holders, £18.20 normal day return.

2. Tuesday 15^th September

An afternoon trip to Trent Park House and gardens. Leaving Harrow by minibus at 1pm, we will visit this newly restored country house in North London. Dating from the eighteenth century, it was owned by Sir Philip Sassoon in the 1920’s and’30’s but had a secret wartime history which has only recently been revealed. Transport cost £8, admission £14, carers go free. There is a cafe and pleasant parkland which is free to walk around. An alternative option is to continue to Whitewebbs Transport Museum, 15 minutes from Trent Park where there is a huge collection of vehicles and transport related exhibits. Admission £12, carers free. We will return from Whitewebbs at 3.45 pm and Trent Park at 4pm, arriving in Harrow by 5pm.

3. Thursday 24^th September

Princes Risborough market and Tiggywinkles wildlife hospital. Leave Harrow by minibus at 10am, arriving back by 5.00pm, Transport cost £12, plus £6.10 admission to Tiggywinkles (Over 65’s £4.40)  Princes Risborough is a pleasant market town in the Chilterns, with a history going back to Saxon times. The market is a typical English Country high street market, where you can find local fruit and vegetables, fresh fish, hot food, baked goods, plants, clothing and household items. Tiggywinkles wildlife hospital is a famous rehabilitation centre for sick, injured and orphaned British wildlife, and there is a small cafe. We will conclude our day with a visit to a garden centre near Haddenham, which also has a cafe, so there will be time for a quick cuppa before returning to Harrow, arriving by 5pm.

Please meet by the SILVER BIRCH BUS STOP (stop Z), COLLEGE RD, HARROW, JUST BEYOND THE BUS STATION at the times shown. In the event of unforeseen circumstances such as tube strikes or unserviceable lifts, we may have to vary the itinerary and you will be advised before departure if we know of this in advance.
