Harrow Community Transport Outings Service
Outings for June 2026
Tuesday 2nd – Aldenham Country Park, Grim’s Dyke and Carpenders Park Garden Centre
We start our June trips with a visit to three local sites which are difficult to reach by public transport. Aldenham Country Park is an attractive open space with pleasant walks, a cafe and farm (which may be visited for an extra charge of £6.95, carers go free). We then move on to Grim’s Dyke, a large country house and estate on the northern edge of Harrow. It became the home of W S Gilbert, the dramatist who wrote operas with Sir Arthur Sullivan. The house is now a luxury hotel, standing in magnificent grounds. Finally, if seeing two beautiful places has whetted your appetite for some gardening, lunch or just a cup of tea, we will visit Carpenders Park Garden Centre before returning to Harrow by mid-afternoon.
Departure: 10.00am Return: 3.00pm Cost = £10.00
Tuesday 16th - Hitchin Market and Vanstone Park Garden Centre.
Hitchin is an ancient market town in Hertfordshire, with a large Tuesday market and many attractive shops and cafes. It also boasts a historic parish church in the town centre, and an attractive riverside frontage. There are two museums in the town centre, North Hertfordshire Museum and the British Schools Museum. In the afternoon we move on to Vanstone Park Garden Centre a few miles away, a special, independently owned site in a lovely setting. It has a nice cafe and colourful grounds and makes a pleasant stop before our return trip home.
Departure: 9:30am Return: 3:30pm Cost = £12.00
Tuesday 23rd - Henley on Thames
We venture into the Thames Valley and visit the famous Oxfordshire market town of Henley on Thames, which dates back to the twelfth century. It has a historic parish church and Town Hall with a visitor information centre, as well as many historic buildings, cafes and shops. Henley is home to the annual rowing regatta, which takes place the week after our visit. The will be an opportunity to take riverside walks in a pleasant parkland setting, or even a short cruise on the river (extra charge of £12.50 over 65’s fare).
